Perimenopause can have a huge impact on memory, sleep and mood for many women

Perimenopause is the long transition into menopause for women and people who menstruate. As ovaries start to run out of eggs (which can happen any time from the mid-30s to mid-50s), hormone levels, particularly oestrogen, begin to vary.

Common physical symptoms include hot flashes, headaches, aches and pains, vaginal dryness and sore breasts.

The shifting hormones in perimenopause can impact everything from memory to mood, with studies finding about 40 to 60 per cent of women have cognitive complaints as they transition through perimenopause and menopause.

And for some women, it can lead to an unexpected physical and emotional roller-coaster.
